The key strategies to address violence against women in the project are through awareness raising among the judiciary and the police about gender issues, violence against women and its consequences on society; awareness raising/advocacy on violence against women among the general public using media; awareness raising/advocacy and education campaigns about existing laws, policies, structures, and plans to end violence against women; capacity building of the judiciary and police to facilitate the process of ending violence; capacity strengthening and setting up procedures/infrastructure in courts and police stations to ensure gender sensitivity and safety for women victims and defendants; and research on specific issues through follow-on cases of interest and relevance to the implementation of existing laws and policies that are being implemented.

UNICEF support to NCWC is centered around the objective of achieving effective legislations and enforcement mechanisms in place to take necessary action on violation of children and women's rights. Activities include building capacity of law enforcement agencies through awareness, advocacy, and sensitization programs; training of police and judiciary on child friendly police and legal procedures; establishment of a complaints mechanism for protection and response capacities for women and child rights violations; and briefing for parliamentarians on CEDAW and CRC.

The NCWC project with the UNDP focuses on the sensitization and capacity building of lawmakers and law enforcement agencies to address the issue of violence against women; and the sensitization and capacity building of parliamentarians to tackle the issue of the low political participation of women. The project also supports the preparation of the National Plan of Action for Gender and the country's 7 th periodic report to the UN CEDAW committee as well as gender budgeting.
